My Crazy Adventure at Walmart this Morning...YIKES!

First, let me say this.....I DID NOT CLEAR THE SHELVES! Like most other couponers I called my Walmart and pre-ordered the Scrubbing Bubbles Kits (5 units containing 6 kits in each unit) which is why mine are in the boxes shown and not stacked individually. I had actually ordered 2 more boxes than is shown above...but they asked if I would not take them right now since they were already running short on their shelves (this was at 4am!!!!). So as any non-selfish person would do...I told them they could keep those 2 boxes (which they are ordering again for me and will have in later this week). However, it did make me wonder how many selfish people had already been there stacking their carts with 10-20 boxes of this and not thinking of others who will try to come in later to get this deal.
**This is why I always advise you to be courteous and "pre-order" when you are going to get several of an item**

However, this was the very first time EVER since I have been couponing that I have had the experience with a rude, hateful, and nasty cashier. Not just at Walmart...EVER...ANYWHERE! She argued with me about every item I had a coupon for! I have never had to pull out my coupon policy for a store and this morning I did. In which the cashier replied "hump...they need to change that so freeloaders stop getting away with robbery". Yet through it all I smiled and bit my tongue.

First item up for argument...of course...the Scrubbing Bubbles. First she stated they were not a "Starting Kit" as it states on the coupon. She had to call over a CSM who then told her "Yes" they are. Then when she scanned the coupon and it had to be manually approved since the coupon amount was more than the item amount. So she then stated I couldn't use the coupon cause it was worth more than the item. This is where I had to pull out the coupon policy...boy was she not happy...yet I laughed a bit inside when I read it out to her.

Next item up for argument the Crest Toothpaste. She looked at the coupon and said "You can't use this for those because they are "travel size". In which I explained that the coupon did not say it excluded travel size and had to show her one that did so she could see the difference. She didn't seem to thrilled about that either.  Then she scanned the coupon and yes once again it had to be approved since the toothpaste was only $.97 and the coupon was for $2.00 off. This was the point where she gave me snicker under her breath that sounded like "highway robbery" again.

Next was the Viva Towels...which again my coupon was more than the item amount (They were $1.97 and my coupon was for $2.00 off)....by this point I think I saw darts coming out of her eyes aiming for my forehead.

I also picked up a gallon of milk. Which she said "what...you mean you actually have no coupon worth something like $10.00 for this $3.00 milk?". I smiled and said "Nope...didn't need one since with all the overage it is free anyways."

Now I had all my calculations done before ever reaching the check-out and in the end I should have had enough overage to pay most of my tax (since Walmart does allow this). I asked her what my subtotal was and she said "$2.02". I thought a moment and said "that is incorrect apparently a coupon was not scanned". So she counted the coupons and said "oh I missed this one" while rolling her eyes and scanned it in. Now my Subtotal showed $.02 it showed amount due as $4.78 ($4.76 tax). Which I said was incorrect my total should only be $2.02 and nothing more. So she proceeded to count the coupons yet again and check the receipts for about 15 minutes and then found that another one of my $2.00 off coupons did not get accepted into the total. I had six $2.00 off coupons and only 5 show on the receipt. So I said "can you enter it please?" and she said "No I cannot do that it is tax and even you have to pay taxes like I have to pay taxes so your total is $4.78 and that is final lady".

By this point I had a line of about 12 people behind me all upset because this was taking a week long adventure and she was the ONLY lane open in the entire store at 4am. So out of frustration and not wanting to make the people behind me hate those of us who use coupons even more...I whipped out my debit card and just paid the balance.

In the end I was still a happy person. I mean come on...my grand total with tax was $90.75 and I only paid $4.78. I walked out with 18 Scrubbing Bubbles Kits, 4 Tubes of Toothpaste, 2 Rolls of Viva Paper Towels and a Gallon of Milk. That is still 98% savings....so who can complain??

On a happy note...I highlighted the part of the Walmart Policy about overage being applied to the cart balance on my copy of their policy while waiting for the CSM to approve the total since it was over $50.00 in coupons on one transaction (gotta love keeping pens and highlighters in your binder!).

"If coupon value exceeds the price of the item, the excess may be given to the customer as cash or applied toward the basket purchase."

and handed it to her smiling like an angel and said "Here, keep this since apparently they never gave you a copy in training or you failed to read it. I highlighted the part about  how overage is applied to the balance just for future reference when this happens again. The next person with coupons might not be so nice about your ignorance of coupon policies in a store that accepts thousands of coupons per day which your vest shows you have worked here for over a year now and should know." I Grabbed my shopping cart and skipped away to the car smiling.

Lesson learned...NEVER SHOP AT WALMART AT 4AM IN THE MORNING!

Also....this is why you should always have your coupon policies with you at ALL times!
I just hope when I go back to get my other 2 boxes later this week the next cashier didn't have someone piss in her morning cheerios like that lady did! (Pardon my french!).
